Professional Recipes Weblog

About

Welcome. Professional Recipes is a website I started almost 9 years ago (summer of 1999) and while it started as a personal website, where I had this crazy idea for recipe software, it grew a little bit as I learned about linking, submitting to search engines, that kind of thing (now known as SEO) and then people started to participate, sending in recipes, suggestions, and even their own tips.

Eventually, I tried to grow it into more of a recipe sharing and voting site, but the work of building a career and raising a family left little time for turning it into the type of site I had envisioned. In the wake of new technologies and inspiration from others on the web and the sense of community, I feel that now is the time to take the site to a new level and build a community from which we can all share and experience good food and good drink!

This blog will serve a few purposes:

* keep the community updated on the main website, talking about new features and the like
* a source of information about food and different food and recipe related topics
* placement of articles, whether written by myself or by others that I find interesting (even topics from community members, once the time comes)
* a place to talk about specific recipes or providing cooking tips and tricks
* a place for myself to go on and on about numerous topics that may be important to me at the time (selfish, I know)!

If you have any questions about the Professional Recipes website or the Professional Recipes blog, feel free to leave a comment here or send in a suggestion via the website.

Thank you,

Jeff the Chef

  2. Signed up for a Tumblr account. What a great site. I’ll be adding a new feature soon using this, it should be fun.

Currently getting a new format finished for the recipes on PR and their printable counterparts. Once I convert these over, I’ll have some new recipe additions and possible another article or 2 and some more blog entries.

  3. Quick update on site progress:

    - more recipes being added daily
    - conversion of old recipes nearly complete
    - while things have gone smoothly, there were a few minor issues w/ 404 errors mostly. These should be all corrected - if someone does happen upon a 404 error, please let me know by commenting here.

As you may have seen, we’ve placed advertisements on the website. It is necessary to generate the money required to move on to the next level with building a community. If you have any questions regarding these, please feel free to contact us.

    - Recipe RSS Feed Available: the Recipe Tumblr Page is live and already pumping out new recipes that are being added to the site. Submit your recipe and might end up on the tumblr! Sign up for recipes delivered to your browser!

Look for more recipe being added and more articles and tips coming very soon.

    Thanks!

    - updated/fixed code for tips page printing, they too now print out cleanly

    - I’ll be adding a “Daily Recipes” page so everyone can see the latest recipes being added from the home page as well.

    That’s it for now.

  6. Another update to some progress made on the site:

    - more recipes being added/converted daily, soon all the old recipe files will be gone. :)

    - traffic to the site has doubled in the past week, almost an instant jump. I saw the highest traffic total ever for March 3rd. A big thanks to everyone who is enjoying the website!!!

    - working on adding some new design to the site

    - working on adding a new recipes section, which will feed all the latest additions to the site for easy access.

  7. Problem with Internet Explorer 7:

    - This post is to indicate an issue with printing the recipes on IE version 7 where the page comes up blank on the Print Preview. However the good news is that the page will print normally on a printer, at least in all my tests. If you have an issue printing, please comment here.

    - In Firefox, there is a slight formatting issue with the links on the recipes in the Print Preview that leaves an extra few spaces at the end of each link, but it does not affect printing in any way.

Please comment here if you have any issues with printing, or with the site in general.

    Thanks!

  8. Comcast.net users:

I apologize for the inconvenience but it appears that we cannot send email at this time. Apparently, another client who uses my web hosting has been flagged for spamming, so currently Comcast.net email servers are blocking email coming from my and a number of other domains.

We are working to help correct the situation ASAP. Again, my apologies. Professional Recipes does not and will not spam visitors, ever. If you have any quesitons or comments, please feel free to contact us or leave a comment here. Thank you.

  9. - Added a Latest Recipes feed right into the website, on the recipes page where you can see the latest recipes.

    - Added additional navigation for recipes lists

    - cosmetic and structural updates

    - working on some other changes to the site for organization and functionality purposes.

As always, we are always working towards a better site and better experience for our visitors. Any suggestions, please feel free to comment here or get involved and submit a recipe!

  11. Site Update:
Our apologies for the recent lack of content lately. We have been working towards new hosting solutions so we can continue to build and grow the website and it’s counterpart.

    Thanks for your patience.
